Solid- Liquid Waste Management System refers to the supervised handling of waste material from generation at the source through the recovery processes to disposal. They are basically the activities and actions required to manage waste from its inception to its final disposal. It includes the collection, transport, treatment and disposal of waste, together with monitoring and regulation of the waste management process. Recognising its importance, the College has developeda Solid-Liquid Waste Management Unit on its campus at the entrance and a MOU was also signed with Sunai Consultancy (P) Ltd. Solid and Liquid Waste Management SLWM) is one of the key components of Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) (G), launched with the objective of bringing improvement in cleanliness, hygiene and the general quality of life in the Premises. SLWM is the collection, transportation, processing, recycling, treatment, and disposal of waste material in a scientific manner. It serves beneficial to entire campus. Under the project, a wide holistic mechanism will be set up by the College for management of solid waste comprising dry, wet, hazardous and bio-medical waste. The project also aims to look at the waste generated on the campus from an economic perspective and create value added products from waste through proper and scientific processing. The project uses participatory approaches for students’ mobilization and collective behaviouralchange towards achieving decentralized solid waste management. A multi-stakeholder approach is being followed, that seeks to bring all internal stakeholder i.e., students, faculty, cafeteria, office, hostels, visitors and all stakeholders together to participate in the dialogue, decision making, and implementation of solution toward common goal. The MMC is the first college in the region where segregation, collection and processing of waste in four categories with treatment of over 90% of the waste collected inside the campus itself in a safe, scientific and sustainable manner is done. Rain Water Harvesting (RWH) is a unique feature of the College as a valuable alternative or supplementary water resource, along with more conventional water supply technologies. Water shortages can be relieved if rainwater harvesting is practiced more widely. Rain water harvesting is a technique of collection and storage of rainwater into natural reservoirs or tanks, or the infiltration of surface water into subsurface aquifers before it is lost as surface runoff. It provides independent water supply during regional water restrictions. In modern day conditions this technique has become a pre-requisite as it will help in replenishing ground water resources, will reduce peak demands during summer months and will also save treated water for more important and appropriate water uses. The institution taking a note of its importance and has developed a rain water harvesting system in its premises. MMC is the first College in the state to construct a ‘Zoological Garden to boost natural habitat in its campus. Inside the campus, a large Aquarium with different varieties of fish species and an Aquatic park has also been constructed to give a better natural learning environment to the students.
