Brief Profile Of The College
3rd Cycle NAAC Accredited, CPE awarded and an ISO Certified Magadh Mahila College (MMC), Patna University, Patna is situated to the north of the historic Gandhi Maidan of Patna, (Bihar). The College is situated besides the holy river Ganga which bestows a pious and peaceful environment to the campus. The campus is spread in a 9-acre area of land with a variety of fruit-bearing trees and also large shade –giving trees. The flora and fauna conserved on the campus are the specificity of the institution. The eco-friendly approach of the teachers, staff, students, stakeholders and vendors adds a gracious aura to the campus.
It has pioneered the path to women education by its immense contribution in the field of higher education for women. MMC believes in nurturing excellence in women from every walk of life. Since its inception in 1946, it has been playing a vital role in boosting and grooming up young girls into responsible young citizens to contribute greatly in the growth and development of nation. The College’s strong culture tradition with a blend of modernity leaves a lasting impression on every young woman passing out of here. At present it is imparting quality education to more than 4000 students in various disciplines of conventional and professional Undergraduate/ Postgraduate Courses and Value-Added Certificate Courses with a missionary zeal.
The MMC, through its various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes offered by the university, presents young women with diverse options to pursue. Well-qualified and dedicated faculty guides and mentors the students to excel over a broad spectrum of academic and cultural disciplines. What binds the college together is its rich culture that helps in shaping the personality of each student. The institution encourages a progressive attitude towards learning, while keeping Indian tradition, culture and values in the foreground.
The College has been honoured with ‘Best College Award’ on ‘Shiskha Diwas’ 2014 by Sri Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar and has also been awarded ‘Excellent Institution of Higher Education for Girls in Bihar’ by His Excellency Sri Ram Nath Kovind, the Governor-cum Chancellor of Universities of Bihar, on the occasion of ‘National Education Bihar Summit and Award 2016’
The Institution has a firm belief in the holistic growth and development of the students, so it concentrates not only on the academics but also on the other co-curricular, extracurricular and community service activities, which is indispensable for all round development of the students. It has proved its worth by escalating great heights and winning great laurels in various fields for last seven and half decades. The method of teaching- learning is centered for equipping the students to be successful in their lives by all means. As the center of excellence, the college provides perennial source of knowledge that helps them to adapt themselves to any situation and to meet the women centric challenges. Four 3- Months Certificate Courses and two 6- Months Certificate Courses have been started in the Session 2018-19 and one 6- Month Certificate Course in Japanese Language Proficiency has been started in the Academic Session-2019-20.
The enrolment process of the Institution is fully transparent and follows the guidelines of Patna University including the Reservation Policy of Central Govt. and Govt. of Bihar. Students from different community backgrounds have been enrolled in every academic session. Students are trained and prepared to face challenges of modern world through value-based education system.
Students are the reason and soul of the Institution, so the college extends special support to students for rewarding future and aspiring career. They are empowered with the 21st century skill, and are given opportunities to think, express and exhibit their talents through various activities conducted under the skillful guidance of teachers who acts as facilitators. Quality education in the college is a democratically shared commitment and accountability among dedicated-sincere teachers, obedient- meritorious- dynamic students and vigilant – devoted parents. The Institution is helping the students in their academic progression by providing various facilities like remedial classes, bridge courses and enrichment classes.
The MMC campus is ragging free. Ragging in any form is strictly prohibited on the campus. The Wi-Fi enabled, clean and green campus of the College attracts each person visiting the institution. The Institution is adding up to the human resource by making qualitative and quantitative enhancement and has been adorned with several honours and awards.
The College has emerged as an institution of eminence and repute, with its alumnae spread across the world. The College is proud of producing young women of character who will be responsible citizens and leaders of the state and nation.
As per the need of global demand, the institution has provided ICT equipment in order to make Teaching- Learning more effective and informative. The hallmark of the institution is excelling workforce. The College is proud to have a strong team of 49 well-qualified permanent faculty members, adequate number of ad-hoc teachers and experienced guest faculty who give their time to make the college a new avenue of quality teaching-learning and research work. Four new Assistant Professors have joined in the year 2019 and one has joined in the month of January, 2020.
The MMC has state-of-the-art infrastructure and learning resources including ICT enabled classrooms, Smart classrooms are getting popular now-a-days and the college have an eye over the technology so that the students are benefited. The teaching – learning process is supported by the adequate infrastructure of the Institution. While the number of new infrastructural development has increased, the number of existing classrooms and seminar halls has been upgraded with new technology supported with ICT, LAN, LCDs, K-Yans, Smart Boards, CCTV Cameras, and Wi-Fi facilities. Equipment such as laptops, web cameras, printers, projectors, etc. should be accessible for students and should be given to them according to their needs. Training for the use of ICT devices and Digital library should also be provided by the college to students regarding newly launched products and give them hands on training. This will give an edge over others when it comes to placement and higher studies.
As a prime learning resource, the College Central Library namely ‘Medha Knowledge Centre’ is automated with all its subsystems like LAN connectivity and Wi-Fi. Library Management Software system is incorporated with latest technologies that enables library to serve its users more effectively. The Central Library is well-stocked and has a wide collection of Books, Reference Books, Rare Books, Journals, Periodicals, Newspaper, Previous Year Question Papers, Photo coping facility, e-journals, Audio-Video Materials etc. A specialized service provided by the library includes INFLIBNET facility with Network Centre for access and download the e-resources with KOHA software and OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) facility for searching the library resources. Barcode online circulation system is in practice in the library. The digitalization of library through OPAC has resulted in the easy access of information from any computer within the campus. The College library has linked with National Digital Library and OPAC helps the students to search the available reading materials easily. A special software is available in the Central Library for visually challenged students.
At MMC, the teachers try their best to provide our students an atmosphere for multifaceted development where students are encouraged to channelize their potential in pursuit of excellence. Quality teaching, Computer education, facility for extracurricular activities including Sports, Music, NSS, NCC, Science and IT Society, Students’ Counseling Cell, Grievance Redressal Cell, Anti-Ragging Cell, Gender Knowledge Centre, Green Earth Brigade, Red Ribbon Club, Language Lab and Hostel accommodation are inside the campus with modern facilities.
Consequently, to meet the demand for greater supply of electricity, the college provides 24 X 7 alternate power supply that are maintained by Green Generators with DG Motors. The entire campus is Wi-Fi enabled and all departments have Internet facility. The campus is fully covered under fire safety norms and several Fire Extinguishers have been installed for security and safety of all laboratories, computer labs, classrooms and at various places on the campus as required.
In collaboration with Central Govt. Scheme under (SECI) Solar Energy Corporation of India, a 100 KWp Solar Power Plant has been installed on the top roof of Main Administrative Building to generate electricity from renewable energy source which saves the 50% monthly electricity expenses of the Institution and reduces environmental pollution. The laboratories of all science departments, laboratories of computer department, language laboratory and e-library have undergone effective modernization of instruments and equipment not only to meet the current requirement of modern teaching -learning but with view to develop these infrastructural facilities through constant monitoring. These are maintained with keeping in view that these centres are the prime learning resource where various research works are carried out.
The College is strongly committed to sustainable development through its mechanisms of environmental management in accordance with many of the schemes employed at college campus. The College further develops social, environmental and ecological sustainability. College has its own functional ‘Environment Policy’ to guide its ongoing improvements in the environmental concerns of the institution. Also, the College is the first college in the state to construct a ‘Zoological Garden to boost natural habitat in its campus. Inside the campus, a large Aquarium with different varieties of fish species and an Aquatic park has also been constructed to give a better natural learning environment to the students.
The Institution provides congenial environment for holistic development of students. The infrastructure and learning resources are upgraded according to the need of students with qualitative and quantitative facilities for overall personality development of students. MMC got the pride of becoming the first college of the state to establish an Incubation Centre, in the name of ‘Magadh Mahila Entrepreneurs Incubation Centre’ (MMEIC) with a sole aim of preparing skilled young entrepreneurs for business Incubation.
Day Care Centre functions on the campus for the benefit of the children of our employees (faculty and staff) and also the children of married students. Children are taken care by trained and dedicated caretakers with the assistance of helpers. The College has taken initiative for physically challenged students and in this context, Lift has been constructed in the premises of the college. ‘Infirmary’ has also been constructed in the college to look after sick students and any unforeseen contingencies.
The College has well-equipped Gym for students and staff members on the campus. The College has appointed a Lady Gym Trainer who provides all sort of guidance and training. Keeping in view the health aspects of the students including those of hostels, the institution has constructed a Students’ Canteen with fully hygiene facility in the name ‘Madalsa Student Cafeteria’.
The College has developed a Solid-Liquid Waste Management System on its campus at the entrance and a MOU was also signed with Sunai Consultancy (P) Ltd. It serves beneficial to entire campus. Rain Water Harvesting (RWH) is a unique feature of the college as a valuable alternative or supplementary water resource, along with more conventional water supply technologies. Water shortages can be relieved if rainwater harvesting is practiced more widely.
The Institution has registered active Alumnae Association Manishika’ through which various activities like awareness programmes, training programmes, personality development sessions have been organized regularly with the Motto: ‘Reunite, Renew, Reflect’. The College maintains an active network with the alumnae through Alumnae Meets, College Website and their visits to the campus. The association fosters a strong sense of community and tradition; promotes lifelong learning, enriches the personal, professional and cultural lives of our alumnae and acts as a support service to the college.
They help in eliciting their feedback /suggestions for the overall development of the students. The entire team of college administration, teaching faculty and students are committed to transform the college into “A Premier Higher Education Hub” not only in the state but in the country with deliverables, endeavours and diligence of their concerned jurisdiction.
As the College enters the 75th year of its existence, we must salute the foresight of our founders. In the academic year 2020-21 the college has broad academic and infrastructure development agenda. In this regard a number of ICT based Faculty Development Programmes and Training Programmes for teaching faculty regarding the use of Smart Class, Online Classes and making of Digital Lectures will be organized in the new academic session.

Beyond the Classrooms’ life outdoor learning is facilitated and is a regular feature for the students of professional courses. When it comes to academics and professionalism, the students from MMC are excellent.
